Seiko adds a new piece to its long series of accessible divers with the Prospex PADI 60th Anniversary Limited Edition HBB002. The announcement is recent, dated June 4, 2026, and the positioning is clear: a real automatic diving watch, limited to 8,000 copies, offered in the United States at $750.

On paper, Seiko is not trying to reinvent the Prospex. The brand instead capitalizes on what it knows how to do best: a robust, immediately identifiable diver, with PADI storytelling strong enough to also speak to those who do not follow all the micro-references of the collection.

A very readable PADI Prospex, not a salon watch

The HBB002 is based on the automatic caliber 4R36, with manual winding, stop-seconds, day/date display, 24 jewels and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. It is not the most sophisticated movement in the Seiko catalog, but it has the advantage of being consistent with the price and use: a tool watch, not a piece of technical speculation.

The steel case measures 45mm For 13.2mm thickness and 47.7mm from horn to horn. It’s wide, but not absurd for a modern Prospex diver, especially with a waterproof rating of 200m, a screw-down crown, a screw-down case back and a unidirectional bezel with ceramic insert. The sapphire crystal receives an internal anti-reflective treatment and a magnifying glass on the window.

The real interest: the complete pack at $750

What makes this edition more defensible than a simple dial variation is the pack. Seiko delivers the watch on a steel bracelet with three-fold clasp, safety, pushers and extension. The brand also adds a high resistance silicone bracelet marked โ€œProfessional Association of Diving Instructorsโ€, designed to be worn on a wetsuit or directly on the wrist.

At $750 in American recommended retail price, the proposition remains rational: you obtain a Seiko automatic diver, a real usage certification, a ceramic bezel, a sapphire crystal, two bracelets and a limited edition of 8000 pieces. The limit comes mainly from the size: those looking for a discreet everyday watch will probably be interested in sticking with a more compact Prospex.

Verdict NeverVulgar

The Seiko Prospex PADI 60th Anniversary HBB002 is not the thinnest or most elegant diver on the market. But it ticks the box of credible summer watch very well: automatic, solid, readable, waterproof, supplied with two bracelets, and attached to a PADI collaboration which makes more sense here than on a dress watch.

To consider if you want a real modern Seiko diver, assertive, very readable and still accessible. To avoid whether your priority is finesse, suit versatility or a contained diameter. In this case, the interest of this HBB002 lies less in its rarity than in its balance: a limited edition which remains a watch to wear, not just to collect.
